Oh hey, Naya!

Oh hey there. It’s been a little while since I’ve published anything on this website. To catch you up on what’s been going on - I’m now a full international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) and work full time seeing clients in an outpatient setting! I’m living my dream and I’m (mostly) loving it. In addition to seeing clients, I do social media for an amazing non-profit and have even started a podcast with friends.

But I miss this space.

The name Lactivist in Louboutins no longer feels right for me. Yes, I am still a breastfeeding advocate through and through, but I no longer want the main content to be related to lactation. I’ll be honest - since my full time job is supporitng families, I have very little inclination to keep talking about breastfeeding after a long day of work. I’m hoping that this less niched name and format will give me the creative freedom I need to write more frequently. I’ve already had a number of posts floating around in my head that don’t quite fit my old format/niche.

My year for 2019 is RELEASE. Okay fine, it was “no” but a friend told me that release is more encompassing and a euphemism for no, so release it is. Anyway, I’m releasing Lactivist in Louboutins - in concept only, I’m renewing the domain name until I die, and hoping to begin writing more consistently under this name.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Curse words. I love them and use them. If you don’t like them, this may not be the spot for you.

  • Sarcasm which will be specifically pointed out since the sarcasm font doesn’t work on your phone.

  • Weird jokes, like the one I just made about sarcasm.

  • Still gonna post about style, still not gonna to get in front of the camera. I’m awkward AF. These posts will likely contain affiliate links.

  • Thoughts on mothering beyond the baby years, because this factory has been shut down!

  • Raising two boys to be kind humans and tiny feminists - these posts probably won’t have answers in them, as I’m still trying to figure it out by myself

  • Posts about being a working mom and sharing any tips/tricks that work for my family

  • Authenticity. Friends, my life isn’t perfect. My Instagram isn’t curated. It’s not a highlight reel. This space won’t be either.

Here’s what you’re not going to see:

  • Sponsored posts galore - because I can’t say I love Coke one month and then swear by Pepsi the next. Any brands or companies I choose to work with will be ones I truly love. No shade towards the bloggers that make beaucoup bucks with sponsored posts: it’s an art and I don’t think I have what it takes. This space is a creative outlet for me.

  • A lot of collaboration with others. TBH, I’ve been burned by other bloggers preaching about “community over competition,” yet don’t move outside of their circle or follow through on their promises. Maybe I was hanging out in the wrong spaces or trying to prove I was one of them, but no more. I’m too old for that shit.

  • Recipes or crafts. I’m not good at either of those things. Sorry kids.

  • Deletion of old content. Oh hell no. All old posts and tags and links are staying. Rebranding doesn’t mean I erase who I was. It’s a part of how I got here.

So there you have it, a quick explanation of what’s to come. Cheers to a great 2019 and the start of a renewed blogging journey! Now if only Facebook would approve my page name change…
